What are your goal for next year?

Next year I hope to accomplish tremendous things in my English class. One goal for my English class next year is to learn about American literature. I will accomplish this goal by participating in class and paying attention to the teacher. Another goal of mine is to use American Literature in my writing. I will accomplish this goal by using the tools in class with my blog posts and writing assignments. A goal I want to accomplish is getting an A every quarter. I will accomplish this goal by doing all my homework, paying attention in class, and never slack off. The major goal for next year is gaining a strong understanding about English. I think I can accomplish this goal by being a class participant, doing extra work outside of class, meeting with the teacher at tutorial times, and researching more about American literature. Next year I hope to improve tremendously as a writer and gain more understanding of English.

What are my strengths as a writer?

As a writer, I improved tremendously over the year. I have been able to notice my strengths as a writer from progressing throughout the year. One strength I noticed was writing poetry and using the poetry terms we learned in class. Some of the poetry terms I had was easy time with incorporating into my writing was sibilance, euphony, and assonance. Another strength of mine was using personification in my writing. I gained this strength this year with the personal narrative. I used this strength in other pieces of writing besides the personal narrative this year, such as blog posts and poetry. Another strength of mine in writing is incorporating personal experiences in my writing. I came into the year with the being of strength of mine. This strength helped me in my personal narrative and the blog posts. These strengths helped me a lot this school year because I used them in all the writing assignments.

What I learned about myself as a writer?

Coming into this year of English I had never written a full paper that I tried my hardest on. When I first entered the classroom and saw that I had four long works of writing I felt like I had walked into a class I would fail. When we first started on the personal narrative I was anxious that I did not know how to write the paper. Eventually, each paper was easier than the last one. So, I learned that I improved as a writer as the school year progressed. I found blog posts and easier tasks due to my improvements as a writer. I also learned that I improved making personal connections in my writing. I had trouble adding personal connections in my personal narrative but whenever I had to do it on my blogs I had no trouble doing it. Also as the year progressed I improved my grammatical skills even though I am not great at it. So this year I learned that I am skilled at making personal connections in writing and responding to blog topics.

Writing Center Experience

The writing center in the second semester was a convenient tool for me. I used the writing center to help me with my research paper, which was a challenge for me because of my trouble with researching topic and writing a lengthy response to it. When I first went to the writing center, my research paper was plagued with grammatical errors and awful word choices. I was anxious about my paper when I got there because I was worried that the paper was not good enough, I was freaking out that it was not acceptable by the rubric and that I would get an awful grade. I met with Mason and he really helped me with organizing the paper and figuring out where to put certain arguments and responses. Our main topic when we sat down to discuss the research paper was where could I add more responses to the arguments I pulled from the articles. Mason helped me figure out where to put these responses and how to remember where to put the responses heading forward in writing. I used the meeting to move my piece forward by using the tools Mason showed me and going through the paper and using them.
